Maturity : Different Types of Cups

“Maturity isn’t about age. It’s about your ability in handling your emotional state.”

42-20294777 As one get’s older, you gain more and more of life’s experience.  But, we are all different.  Imagine ourselves as cups.  Cups that are of different shapes and sizes.

Short Cups, Big Diameter
42-17431354 Some cups are shallow but big in diameter.  The water in this cup rises slowly because it spreads across a bigger area.  Takes longer, but still, it rises.  These people, mature slowly but surely and their maturity covers a vast area of their life and a wider perspective across many different issues.  They are not hurried but take the time to gather this experiences.

Short Cups, Small Diameter
42-21564675 These cups are small and hold not a lot of water.  The water in the cup rises fast, but gets full much earlier because it only has to cover a small area.  The people in this group tries not to be too adventurous.  They don’t take a lot of risks, but instead focuses on a few things in their life that keeps them happy.  Because they are focused, they mature in those things early.

Tall Cups, Big Diameter
AABU001170 These deep cups holds the most water, and it takes a long time for water in this cup to rise to the brim.  These are the “thinkers” and “problem solvers”.  These are usually the people you go to when you need advice for almost anything.  They seem to know the solution to many of life’s problems.  But, sometimes they don’t mix well because the things they say may be too deep or hard to understand by everyone.

Tall Cups, Small Diameter
42-20048960Water in this cup rises fast, but it has a long way to go till it reaches the top.  These group of people grow mature very fast but they never get contented or stop even when they have achieved something.  They continue to always think that there is something better out there.  They are also mainly humble as to them, they believe that there is so much more to still learn.

Questions that you should ask yourself when evaluating your maturity:

  1. What cup are you?
  2. What other cups comes do you match best with?
  3. Do you mix with other cups?
  4. Do you try to understand how the water flows in and out of these different cups?

…and I guess the most important question…

How high is the water level in your cup?

The Power of Believe: To Be Rich

“The Power of Believe: Write a 5-figure (or more) cheque for yourself & put down the date you want to cash it out. The make it happen.”

If you hadn’t read “The Science of Getting Rich” by Wallace Wattles, written a century ago (yup, that long)… then I suggest that you do.  If you know the book, “The Secrets” by Rhonda Byrne and if you have heard about the “Law of Attraction”, you will come to understand what I am about to tell you.

Rhonda Byrne’s quest to find the secret, (as what the law of attraction is coined in her book) started when she read Wallace’s book.  Yes, a powerful theory put to words, by a lady who was at one point in dire and desperate need for answers and change in her life.

Some may ask, why is it just about getting rich?  And emotional evangelists would say… money won’t make you happy..

Well, on the first point of relevance, I’d just say, the idea of “law of attraction” is an intangible subject, such as happiness differs from one person to another. Obviously the book takes something tangible to explain itself so that you can create in your mind, the visual of what you want.  It’s a powerful technique in affirmations and reinforcement of a belief.

On the second point, I’d like to differentiate, “richness” and “money”.  In what I have understood through reading of these many theological books, these two are both different, in the sense that one is an experience that relates to the other and not the other way around.

Being “rich” is an experience.

42-20077102

It’s a culmination of achievements, success, use of knowledge, experience ending with the result of a “life-of-abundance”. “Richness” isn’t about sums and figures and neither is it evil.  (Don’t understand how some people assume being rich is a bad thing)  Nowadays, when you say that someone is rich, the most accurate meaning to that is that the person has achieved a point in his life that he has most of what he wants and most likely, he is at a happy place.

“Money” on the other hand, is just a product, a tangible one, a currency that is used in exchange for goods or services.  Having a lot of money, doesn’t denote being rich.  It’s just one part of the equation.

RF4472850 And truth to be told, the phrase, “Money is the Root of All Evil” is one of the greatest fallacies.  Human attitude towards the acquirement of money is instead the root of the outcome.

“Treat money well, and you will be treated well with wealth.  Treat money badly, and you will suffer in poverty”.

So, I am not focusing on the tangible wealth… it’s the experience of achievements in being successful and acquiring all that you need and want… that is the true objective.

Therefore, be RICH my friends!

“Blink” – The Power of Thinking without Thinking

P1040008 I just finished the book, “Blink” by Malcolm Gladwell.  It’s a book that talks about thin-slicing, that instant moment within the first 2 or 3 second of us being confronted with a situation or subject and the immediate thoughts or judgement that is created then.

I loved it.

Gladwell had described many interesting scenarios of how important is our instant judgement, how it applies to us, how it’s used and how sometimes we need to be aware of snap judgements.  He isn’t just talking about relying on coming to immediate conclusions, rather giving an understanding of how it applies effectively to making a decision.

P1040009

Loved the examples he shared inside here.  From a statue that did not look right in the first instant, to a general making judgement in the thick of a battle, to Pepsi and Coke’s differences and to the unfortunate incident of a man wrongly gunned down by inexperienced policeman. Gladwell, brought countless situations where thin-slicing is a key component of making the right decision.

What will I take from this book?  Well, I’d learn to react faster in situations where in the past, I’d otherwise stumble and be speechless.  It will definitely help with my wits and responses and most importantly understanding why I make snap judgements.

Must read for everyone! 😉

Upside Down Cuteness on FaceBook

Do you know that FB has a upside down language setting?

Hmm… must be some kind of joke the technician at FB is having…

FB Technician 1: Okay, Muhammed is done with the last language… that makes 65 languages altogether.

FB Technician 2: Cool… hmm.. well, now I am bored.

FB Technician 1: Yeah… *yawn*

FB Technician 2: Hey, let’s stand on our heads for fun!

FB Technician 1: Alright!!!

(and they do it)

FB Technician 2: Wow… this is fun…

FB Technician 1: Now my FB screen looks funny… It’s upside down.

FB Technician 2: Oookay…. let’s see if we can do something about it.

(and they spend a pointless 2 weeks, creating a whole new lingo for people who likes to use the internet while standing on their heads!)

FB Technician 1: Wow… I love it… now if we can just get the management to fly us to space so we can work upside down… maybe create a couple more new lingos for whatever space aliens we find out there!!!
